**********Step 2 Fire Engine Toddler Bed***********
Last month I decided it was time to move my toddler into a proper bed.

Having looked around all the beds available for toddlers I can across this bed in Toys r Us.

*****Price*****

£179.00 with free delivery from toys r us online

*****Description*****

This is what Toys r Us has to say about it
* Cute character fire truck bed with working siren night light for toddlers

* Has climb-on activity from both sides
* Dashboard features molded-in steering wheel with radio and guage details

* Working night light that shuts off after five minutes
* Minimal adult assembly required

* Foam mattress and mattress support included.

*****Putting it together*****
It says "Minimal adult assembly required"
The instructions are awful!
Basically the instructions consist of drawn pictures of someone putting it together.
It doesn't tell you which bits are which, you're just supposed to guess!
I'm usually very good at putting together flat pack furniture. This one I found hard.
It's a click together design with a few screws added to hold it together. Sounds easy. I managed to get it up in an hour, so I don't think that was too bad considering the poor instructions.

*****Size*****

* Assembled dimensions: 87(h) x 173(l) x 104(w) cm

* Mattress size 134 x 71 cm.
It takes the same bedding as a Cot Bed not a standard Cot. It's an American design so when I emailed Toys r Us to ask about bedding I was told standard crib bedding.
Off I went and bought new covers to match the room, and they didn't fit..
An American Crib is the same size as a Cod Bed over here.
The mattress it comes with is just a standard foam mattress, nothing special. It isn't waterproof either so you might want to buy a waterproof mattress protector incase of accidents.

*****The first night!*****
This is my experience with the bed, other toddlers properly will differ! lol
I put his to bed at normal time and after about an hour of playing with the bed he went to sleep. He's now discovered he can climb out of the bed and play in his bedroom in the night, but that's what happens when you get a toddler bed in any design!

****Conclusion*****
If you want something totally different this is the bed for your toddler. Once you manage to get it put together it feels solid enough.. I can even fit in it with my toddler so it's quite roomy.
Your toddler will love it and the room will look really fun.

They can use it up until about 5 years old so they should get plenty of use out of it. I've seen them sell quite well on Ebay too so you might even be able to get some money back out of it once it has been used.
It's wipe clean all over apart from the mattress which you might need a protector as I mentioned above.

The sides are quite high on it so you don't have to worry about a young toddler falling out of it. I moved my son into his Fire Engine bed when he was 21 months old and hasn't fallen out once. He still sleeps in his beloved Grobags too.
It doesn't take up a lot of room.
Despite its bulky appearance it's not that big. It's about the same size as a cot bed. It's not as long as a single bed.

Bedding.. It takes cot bed bedding but I have bought normal single bed bedding and have just tucked in the excess underneath. I found single bedding cheaper to buy from high street shops then cod bed bedding.
Pros verses cons.. In my opinion this is a great bed if you don't mind paying extra for the design. When all is said and done though it is just a bed and not a toy, some people might get a bit more sleep is they opt for a normal single bed and will save themselves a lot of money. The mattress is very basic and I'm not sure if you can get a better one, saying that though it is quite comfortable.
