REVIEW
My brothers and parents clubbed together and bought my son this Thomas the Tank bed for Christmas last year.
If your child loves Thomas, they will love this bed!
Why?
Well it is a very low bed which is ideal for toddlers so if they fall out of bed they don`t have a very long drop on the floor and are not likely to hurt themselves.
Also it comes with a cup holder magazine rack and as long as your child is sleeping at the top end of the bed it kind of acts like a bed guard which is really neat I think, though my son usually lands up down the bottom of the bed!
-Putting the bed together-
Well the bed arrived in quite a big box, all the parts were inside with instructions. I decided to put this together myself while my husband and son were out as the instructions looked pretty easy to follow and it was but it was also very fiddly to do.
Basically the frame is made out of a lots of red tubular metal poles that fit together only they have to be twisted one way or they fall apart. I have to say I did get very annoyed with these poles as I found I could get a couple right then by the time I fiddled around with the next pole the other two poles had fallen out but eventually I did manage to get the frame together.
Putting the side pieces and head and foot board were quite easy to do apart from a couple of holes were missing where the screws had to go but I did manage to screw them in place ok.
The headboard, footboard and side panels are made out of MDF, they are all painted blue with the headboard having a picture of the top end of the engine. The footboard has got a big Thomas face and the side panels have trains on them.
The Magazine rack is really good, it is made out of blue plastic and a cupholder or you can use it for a night light, I find there is room for a nightlight and drink.
Underneath the bed are storage draws which are made out of material, the lid has a zip that runs all the way round and there is a picture of Thomas on the front of the draws.
-What do I think?-
If any of you have read my Thomas the Tank ready bed review you will know that for quite a while I had problems getting my son to sleep in a bed, for various reasons he would only sleep in his buggy but eventually we tried him in a ready bed which he loved and my family thought that if they got my son a proper Thomas bed he would take to it.
My son loves his bed, he jumps around on it and especially likes to put his drink and nightlight on the tray. He tends to move around the bed a lot in the night so the side panels stop him from falling out of bed unless of course if he has moved to the bottom of the bed then he does occassionally land on the floor.
My family paid £60 for the bed on Amazon, I believe they had a sale on at the time, I have had a look around and these beds sell for as much as £120! Please note the bed does not come with a mattress, you will need a cotbed sized one.
The bed is very sturdy my son has been using it for 10 months now and it is showing no signs of wear and tear.
The only downside for me is the under bed storage draws, they are fantastic but I cannot put anything in them as my son pulls everything out!
